LONICERA: HONEYSUCKLE


This beautiful, summer-flowering shrub produces masses of small trumpet shaped flowers followed by colorful berries in the fall.   Honeysuckles are low maintenance,  coming  in many different shapes and sizes that require little to no pruning.  Although they are drought tolerant, Honeysuckles  perform best in well-drained, moist soil.

Description

Arnold Red Honeysuckle

Lonicera tatarica 'Arnold Red'

6-10' (3m) x 6-10' (3m) 2 Bluish green  Dark red  Large, fast growing shrub in an upright spreading form.  It has a stunning display of sweetly fragrant flowers and tiny, bright red berries that attract birds. Resistant to Honeysuckle aphids.  
Honeyrose Honeysuckle

6-10' (3m) x 6-10' (3m) 3 Deep, blue-green Deep rosy-red Upright, rounded shape with a better plant habit and flowers then 'Arnold Red'.  Resistant to witch's broom aphid.
Miniglobe Honeysuckle

3-4' (1.25m) x 3-4' (1.25m) 3 Superior, dark green foliage Yellow white This globe shaped Honeysuckle is the best hardy, dwarf variety, making it an ideal foundation plant.  It has dark red berries and tiny flowers.
Sweetberry Honeysuckle

4' (1.25m) x 4' (1.25m) 2 Bright green turning to yellow in the fall. Creamy white The only variety with edible fruit.  The sweet berries are blue in color, and taste good eaten raw, in jams, jellies and drinks. This compact shrub grows into a dense,  rounded form, making it an excellent choice for foundation plantings.  It is disease resistant and attracts birds.
