ORNAMENTAL TREE |
SALIX: WILLOW |
 |
Willows are one of the fastest
growing tree or shrub . They come in many shapes and sizes - from a large
weeping form to a low, neat shrub. The leaves are lance-shaped and
vary in color from a dark glossy green or silver-blue to white or even
a variegated pink. The stems are flexible and may be used in crafts.
Although willows grow best in moist conditions, they are highly
adaptable and are able to tolerate long periods of drought. They will
also grow well in poor soil, making them very versatile. In
order to maintain size, color and density, prune willows regularly,
either in winter or early spring. Rejuvenate (selectively
prune) your willow every 3 to 4 years to get the best branch color. |
